Mohammed Shami got injured after the ODI World Cup 2023. After this, he had to undergo foot surgery and stayed away from cricket for a long time. But, after rehabilitation, he returned to domestic cricket. After performing, he was selected for the Champions Trophy 2025. He managed to take 5 wickets in the first match against Bangladesh. But, Shami was seen in trouble against Pakistan. His old injury recovered again. Due to this he also had to leave the field. But, now news is coming out that Indian bowler Mohammed Shami may announce his retirement from cricket after this tournament.

Mohammed Shami is struggling with his poor fitness. His body is not supporting him anymore. But, Shami wants to stay in cricket. It is his dedication and hard work that has enabled him to make a comeback after surgery. But, his body is not supporting him now. After undergoing surgery on his foot, Shami took a long time to recover. Despite that, he could not give his best. In the second match played against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, Mohammed Shami again suffered pain in his ankle. 

Due to this, he bowled 5 wide balls in the first over. Not only this, he also went out of the field in an important match. After which questions are being raised on his fitness that when he was not fully fit, then why was he included? Arshdeep Singh should have been included in his place. But now Shami may be out of the match to be played against New Zealand. 

Can retire after the Champions Trophy 

This could be the last ICC tournament trophy for 34-year-old Mohammed Shami. Because the next season will be played after 4 years. But, Shami is struggling with an unwanted injury. He does not have enough time left to wait for 4 years. Shami may announce his T20 and ODI retirement before the upcoming Champions Trophy. Because young players are not getting a chance due to senior bowlers. Arshdeep Singh is in great form. But, he is not getting a chance in the Champions Trophy because of Shami. If he gets a chance, he can prove to be more lethal than the injured Shami.

Mohammed Shami may be seen only in Tests!

If Mohammed Shami bids adieu to white ball cricket after the Champions Trophy, he can be seen playing only in Tests. His workload will also be reduced. Due to this, he will be able to focus completely on Test cricket. Let us tell you that Shami has played 64 Test matches for India. In which he took 229 wickets. During this, he has also done the miracle of taking 5 wickets in an innings 6 times.
